Seven courses meal

Not too long ago, I had the privilege to cover the 2013 Relais and Chateaux North American meeting which took place for three days at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI. On the last night, guests were treated to a seven courses tasting menu featuring signature dishes from some of the best chefs of New York State. I was able to follow each chefs and document the work and skills those individuals mastered. Here is the sumptuous dinner guests were served :

Well, you now have an idea of what amazing dishes some of those Chefs are able to create. I have the most profound respect for such skills and I want to thank all of them for being so friendly and patient with me while I was taking pictures. A toast to all of them !

Oh, and in case you wonder, I got lucky enough to try some of them, and yes, it was exquisite !

I recently watched a training video on Kelbytraining.com with Peter Hurley, a well renowned Headshot photographer based in New-York city and right away, I wanted to test out what I just learned.
Peter Hurley made a name for himself with very bright, crisp headshots taken in front of a white background. I must admit, I generally like to photograph Headshots outside in natural light and create a beautiful Bokeh as background, so this was definitely different. Until I had seen Peter hurley’s pictures, I was never a big fan of white background for Headshots, I always found them a little flat , lacking contrast, the subjects always seem to disappear in the bright background.

But what make his pictures stand out besides their look, is the fact that he has a gift for making his subjects come out in front of the camera, capture their personality. No 1,2,3 cheese pictures or pretend smiles, he takes the time to let his “models” be themselves, and relax in front of the camera. he reminded me that what matter is the emotion coming through that Headshot besides just a pretty picture. You want that picture to stand out, show who you are in that one pick, and it’s particularly true for actors or corporate Headshot. Your look is your business card and that first impression is what will give you a chance to make it to the next step.

It was a lot of fun to apply some of the new tips I just learned and I had a great time shooting pictures with Kathy, a wife and mother of two, who like many of us felt a little intimidated by the camera but eventually forgot about it and just enjoyed herself.

Princesses

My daughter was in for a treat this past week ! A friend of ours own a princess business which offer a cast of fairytale characters for private parties or special events, and she asked me if I could make a couple of videos to post on her website.
The setup was quite simple, just a couple of lights, a tripod and a plain background. The idea was to create a quick video which would put her singing skills in display, very much like what I have done before with monologue videos that actor use for auditions.
So to my daughter’s delight, she got to hang out and listen to Cinderella, then Sleeping beauty in our own home. What amuses me is that at no time she seemed to be questioning what was happening!

Harlem Shake

As I mentioned in a previous post, the month of February has been spent shooting a short independent film, written, directed and produced by my wife called Confessions . This has been a lot of fun and quite a learning experience! This past week alone, we had close to 25 people in our house to shoot the last scene of the screenplay which required as many extras as we could fit in our living room to film people crashing a party. Everyone had a blast and was getting ready to leave until someone mentioned the Harlem Shake. Of course, everyone was up for it, so I turned my camera back on, and there it is , confessions’ Harlem Shake !
